Peggy's Cove Commission - AGM

Submitted by admin on 28 April 2025

With the Peggy's Cove Commission coming up on May 12, I thought it would be helpful to speak to my time on the Commission. The commission has a long history that I do not share, but I am able to speak to my experiences since my appointment. For my part, I am glad that the recommendations from the Ombudsman Report have been released, I am pleased to be working with the Commission with a finalized Land Use Bylaw, approved on April 17, 2024.

I wrote a letter to Hon. Colton Leblanc regarding the path to implementing the remaining recommendations of the Ombudsman report on March 7, 2025 (letter here). His office responded on April 27 (letter here).  In that letter, he confirmed the prioritization of hiring a Development Officer, which is also encouraging news.

The next recommendation from the Ombudsman Report that I hope will be prioritized is the amendment of the Peggy’s Cove Commission Governance Policy to require open meetings as routine. In my other commitments on Council, every meeting I have is open, recorded, and community engagement is actively encouraged, and hope the Commission will be the same.

For those attending, I look forward to hearing from you.
